MOON PORTS
100 cities on the Moon. 150,000 Moon Shuttle flights per year. 1,000 Shuttles. Each Shuttle makes 150 flights/year. 10 Shuttles at each Moon Port serving each of 100 cities on Near and Far Side. About four flights per day or one every six hours. Two crawler tranporters serve each Port on Mare plains. 200 crawlers on the Moon. If 30 million tourists per year each stay one week then constant population of each of 100 cities is about 6,000. Travelers get from terminal to rocket ship by double decker buses. Landing fields are rather large covering many dozens of square miles on Mare. Crawlers roll out to get passengers and refuel rocket ship. Accurate landings are possible with radar and radio navigation aids. Railways supply monopropellant from mines and refineries to ports. Travelers take buses from rocket to terminals and then board 150 mph conventional monorail trains to cities in more rugged and scenic territory where landing a rocket is not so safe. Some rocket ports are built in large smoothe crater bottoms and cities are located in mountainous crater rims. |
